Bruichladdich Distillery (Brukladi) was founded in 1881 on the shores of the Gulf of Indaal in the western part of the island of Islay. Translated from the Gaelic the name of the distillery means "A hill near the sea" or» cliffed coast". The elements of the earliest Scottish distilleries have been remained because of the long period of work stoppage of the distillery. Jim McEwen along with several investors bought it in 2001. Cold filtration and caramel addition are not used during production.
